The symbol I chose was the pearl. I think the pearl symbolizes or represents two things, therefore I had the pearl take up two columns. When the pearl first came up in the story, I thought I symbolized hope, faith, and also wealth. My textual evidence was "Pearl broke clear and beautiful, rich and warm and lovely, glowing and triumphant." (Pg. 19) The pearl could save Coyotito and much more. As chapter three came I thought the pearl represented greed, envy and desire. "Luck you see, brings bitter friends." (Pg. 34) Everyone in town is jealous of the great Pearl Kino found. People could turn against him for the Pearl. (As did the doctor) Have you ever been jealous of somebody for something they had?

I think that that is true because like in this case, kinda like what you said, at first I bet most of us thought that the pearl could bring them happiness when really when it finally came down to it, it didn't bring them much, besides kino

The symbol I chose was the pearl and Kino.In the beginning I thought that when Kino found the pearl he was going to sell it right away to help heal the baby, which I thought symbolized that he cared about the baby and wanted to heal the baby. But when Kino found the pearl he started thinking of things that he wanted to buy instead of putting the baby first, which I thought symbolized greed. Kino could start to put his worries about the baby off by buying things with the pearl instead of helping the baby before his needs and desires. Have you ever put something before a family member that you cared about?

I chose the symbol the Doctor, I chose this one because in the story it came up a lot. The doctor is greedy and only does his job for the money not to help people out. He didn't help out Kino's family until he found the big Pearl. He was selfish and only wanted to help himself. "The doctor was closing his bag now. He said. "When do you think you can pay this bill?" He said it even kindly" (35) He might've seemed like he really cared but you can tell he's being impatient and Kino knows it. So are you every impatient for greed or money in your life?

Kino right I feel like he is getting kind of "agressive money that he is about to get. Also I noticed he never said anything on paying for Coyotitos treatment. Also I feel the doctor put something in the baby that gives him cramps then comes back just in time to put the good stuff.

The symbol chosed was, the pearl because its always coming up. I think it symbolizes evil because its bringing alot of jelousy towarsds Kino and Juana. " ... And only one person stood in the way and that was Kino. So that he became curiously every mans enemy."(23) is an example of jelousy.

The symbol I chose is the pearl. The peril represent's hope, kino and his wife hope to find a buyer and gain huge amounts of money. It also represents evil and greed of many men, children, and women"Kino's pearl went into the dreams, the speculation, the schemes, the plans, the futures, the wishes, the dreams, the lusts, the hungers, of everyone, and only one person stood in the way and that was Kino, so that he became the curiosity of every man's Enemy" That is why I think the pearl represent's hope, evil, greed, and jealousy. The quote talks about Kino's hope and dreams but, it also shows how everyone wants or has ideas of there own for the pearl. What item of another's have you wanted or were jealous over.

I chose the pearl as a symbol. In the beginning of the book I thought the pearl was the symbol of good, not evil but now in in the middle of the book I think it symbolizes evil. In the beginning of the book the pearl healed coyotito and now the pearl is bringing evil to kino

for me I chose the symbol of money. I think that in the pearl money has to do with a lot. Ever sense the baby got bit, really if you think about it, their only way out would be money, for example the doctor would have not helped the baby if they didn't find the pearl and with out the pearl and the doctors help, the baby wouldn't be getting worse and worse. Also it's just how the doctors all about money too, he enjoys being wealthy. And when kino found the pearl everyone in the town knew and almost seemed jealous.

I found many symbols but one that stood out to me was the 'pearl' I think it's a big symbol in the book. It symbols 'hope' because on page 19 it quotes "pearl broke clear and beautiful, rich and warm and lovely, glowing and gloating and triumphant. In the surface of the great peral for could see dreams forms. While I was reading I thought this could save coyotitto. Then reading some more the symbol turned into more like a greed. People were Jealous, people pertended to be friends with them they wanted to be nice while before they had the pearl they were just indigents nobody cared for them.

My symbol is a blanket. I picked this symbol because I think it represents safety and comfort. My evidence is; "Juana laid Coyotito on the blanket. She put her shawl over him so that the hot sun could not shine on him," and "Kino folded his blanket over his shoulder, and than he was ready," In conclusion I think a blanket is a strong symbol that represents relaxed and comfort.

The symbol I choose was the scorpion, the scorpion symbolizes evil/death. "The scorpion stung Coyotito & Kino cried out like an animal."(4) This evidence is what began the whole story, the reason Kino had to get the pearl.
