According John Steinbeck who wrote the pearl true happiness is loving things that you have, and not be greedy. "Kino drew back his arm and flung the pearl with all his might" page 90. That shows how mad he is at the pearl and he doesn't want it anymore, he loves his family and that's all that matters. "Kino's eyes opened and he looked first at the lightening square which was the door and then he looked at the hanging box where Coyotito slept. And last turned his head to Juana his wife, who lay beside him" page 1. His family is the first thing he sees in the morning, and the last thing at night.

According to John Stienbeck, what is true happiness?
In the book The Pearl the author dose not specifically say what true happiness is, but I think that John Stienbeck is trying to tell us that, happiness dose not come from money, it comes from the good that people do in your life. This is explained in the book many times especially when the young baby is stung by the scorpion and th doctor comes. That example made him happy. People often think that happiness just comes from happiness, what do you think true happiness is? And how do you accomplish it?

What is true happiness.
True happiness according to John Steinbeck is his family because on page (5) it says"he could her Juana whispering the old magic again, and he could hear the evil music of the enemy. He could not move until the scorpion moved, and it felt for the source of death that was coming to it. Kino's hand went forward very slowly, very smoothly. The thorned tail jerked upright. And at that moment the laughing coyotito shook the rope and the scorpion fell". I picked this qoute because John Steinbeck put fear into kino and Juana for there baby. Kino was scared and found a pearl to heal the baby. I think they would do anything for coyotito no matter what. What do you think happiness means to John Steinbeck? How do you know?

According to John Steinbeck, true happiness is not having money, but it's having family, and friends. People that care for you. Things that you can't pay for have the most value. No matter how much money that Pearl costed or diamonds, or gold, thing that aren't worth money are more valuable than things that you pay for. all that Pearl did was cause problems. It didn't cause any type of happiness. Even though kino was naming all those things to make him happy. Such as a whole new life, a real house, marriage, education for his son, ect. He still wasn't happy. Kinos family was perfect happy family that loved each other and was just thankful for what they had... Until kino had got the Pearl. Then everything went wrong. Life was different. On page 57, kino says "I am a man, hush." Kino had gotten sick. The Pearl did him no good. The Pearl was pretty much a representation of bad luck because once they got the Pearl, everything wasn't the same. They were better off without money. The Pearl that kino found could also represent evil as in someone didn't want them to live a happy life so they used the Pearl to be worth money and "happiness" but that's not right. Money can not buy happiness and never will be able to. Yes money can buy food, shelter, clothing, water, health, cars, medicine, and your daily needs but money could never buy the things that you really need in life. Such as family, friends, love, feelings, other people, success, happened and really everything that really matters. Rich people aren't always the happiest ones of all. The people with a family are. I don't really see any need in being rich but I do believe that even people with no money, even the homeless could be happier and live a happier life that the richest people and wealthy. What do you think about this? Can money buy happiness? Do you agree? What do you have in your life that you are thankful for and isn't even worth money? Did you pay for your family? Did you pay for your friends? Did you pay for success and happiness? And most importantly what makes you happy?

According to John Steinbeck, who wrote The Pearl, true happiness is...
"He heard the rush, got his knife out and lunged at one dark figure and felt his knife go home, and then he was swept to his knees and swept again to the ground"(59). I picked this sentence because I believe that it shows what it is like to not have true happiness. See he got so worried about the Pearl and how much value he had with it that he has to kill people over it so they can't have what he does. Before he ever even had the Pearl Kino was a kind hearted man and felt he had everything he needed to get through like having a house, food, water, and a family. That is what true happiness is, it is when your greatful with what you have and your fine with it. He was fine without the Pearl but then turned into a monster with it he made the right decision by getting rid of it and going back to his own life the life were he had most fun and he enjoyed more than with the Pearl In it. We see all these rich people with there nice cars and big houses but if you ask half of them how there life is been they won't say good. Sure they have everything they want but there's one thing that money couldn't buy the which is happiness. Having happiness is more important than a car that looks cool if you have happiness you can live on the streets and still be fine. So my question is if you got this Pearl what would you do with it?

True happiness according to John Steinbeck who wrote the book The Pearl. This text shows "Juana sang softly an ancient song that only had 3 notes and yet endless variety of interval. And this was part of the family song too"(3). This evidence reveals that true happiness is when its peaceful, not when there is violence in the house & it depends what your defenition of what happiness is because when the pearl ends up coming into the house it changes Kino's thinking & his family. What do you think true happiness is?

I think John Steinbeck, author of "The Pearl" has a different meaning of true happiness than what "websters dictionary" has. I think John steinbecks meaning of happiness is, being satisfied with what you already have and never losing sight of it. In the beginning of the book the author talks a lot about what kino and his family "Kino's eyes opened, and he looked first at the lightening square which was the door and then he looked at the hanging box where Coyotito slept. And last he turned his head to Juana, his wife, who lay beside him on the mat, her blue head shawl over her nose and over her breasts and around the small of her back. Juana's eyes were open too. Kino could never remember seeing them closed when he awakened. Her dark eyes made little reflected stars. She was looking at him as she was always looking at him when he awakened." this shows how much kino thinks about his family but closer to the end of the book after he gets the pearl he loses sight of his family and only thinks about keeping the pearl safe. "And rage surged in Kino.He rolled up to his feet and followed heras silently as she had gone, and he could hear her quick footstepsgoing toward the shore. Quietly he tracked her, and his brain wasred with anger. She burst clear out of the brush line and stumbledover the little boulders toward the water, and then she heard himcoming and she broke into a run. Her arm was up to throw when heleaped at her and caught her arm and wrenched the pearl from her. Hestruck her in the face with his clenched fist and she fell among theboulders, and he kicked her in the side." This area of text shows how he was willing to assault his wife just for the pearl.
This pearl was supposed to help his family but in the end it tore it apart. Do you think kino was ever truly happy after receiving the Pearl?

John Steinbeck is the author of The peral and acording to him true happiness Is family . I think this is the theme because in pg.2 kino said in his head " If I were to name the song It woude be the song of the family ".And when ti think of songs I think of somthing special because most songs are ment for someone they .Also another theme can be. That there are always going to be someone or somthing that will try to break you down .In page 3 kino says "the song of every he could hear the music the song of the enemy ".and the enemy is the scorpion and how it stinged koyotito And so they needed money to pay the doctor .

According to John Steinbeck true happiness is...
When I read this book I thought he wanted the reader to think that family was true happiness. I know this because when kino found the pear he was going to use it for money to heal his son. But then when his son got better he still had the pearl and he started revolving around the pearl. All he could think about was what he could get with it. I know this because it says "Kino couldn't help but think of all of the things he wanted and dreamed for as a kid". It is like if a teen really wants a phone and they get it, their lives revolve around it and they get hooked to social media and games when they have a family that cares about them and wants to spend time with them already. Kino had a family already but he chose the pearl over his family members, he chose the object over his family. Do you think kino was too revolved around the pearl and not his family?

According to John Steinbeck, who wrote The Pearl, true happiness is family because when Kino found the Pearl he thought that the world revolved around him because he finally found a Pearl, also he bragged that his kid could go to school now.
The Pearl finally took over his life like this quote says " the Pearl has become my soul" Kino said " If I give it up I should lose my soul, go although with God" (29 PDF)
This is saying that the Pearl has came into his soul and making him make poor choices with his life. Poor choices like " I have killed a man"(28 PDF) he killed a man because the other person was jealous of Kino because he owned the Pearl and so "He heard a noise and lunged at one dark figure and felt the knife go home" (26 PDF) even though the person had the Pearl didn't mean that Kino had to kill him he could have negotiated with the person.
What do you think John Steinbeck thought the true meaning of Happiness was??

True happiness is being happy without having the finest things in the world, money doesn't buy happiness it usually brings more problems like in the book "The pearl " Kino was very happy with his family and with what he had . Until he found the pearl all these problems came. He was attacked twice , the doctor got coyotito sick , Buyers were cheating him, he almost stabbed someone. He didn't have much but he did have Love and his family which are free and the most wonderful thing you'll ever have . Money isn't gonna buy the most beautiful things you'll ever have and does things are what will make you the most happiest person

Happiness is a good feeling and having no worries at all. Happyness is also having some way to get food whether it's having money or a canoe like kino might have in the pearl.Kino didn't have to worry about having to fear food is what it says on page 9 it says "A canoe was valuable because a man could get food with it". But kino wasn't happy at the end of the story.

What is true happiness?
True happiness isn't money.yeah money can buy you materials that can make you happy but it can never buy you true happiness. In the pearl in pg(17) "We will be married-in the church,"kino said softly. In pg(18)"I will buy a rifle." and "My son will go to school." Kino thought just because he had the pearl he could make his dreams come true and finally be happy with his family. In pg(51)"The pearl has become my life,"Kino answered."If I throw away the pearl,I shall lose my life.At this point of the story the pearl/money has changed kino and has become more cruel. My question, can money really buy true happiness?

What is true happiness?
According to John Steinbeck , who wrote The pearl, true happiness is not getting everything you wish for because it can change you and people around you."Kino lifted his arm and threw the pearl as far as he could" (69). The pearl was basically his life all he ever cared and wanted was the pearl so he could be rich and not have to deal with stuff he's struggling with. Why do stuff you want always end up bad?

What is true happiness?
Idea: according to John Steinbeck, who wrote the screenplay earl, true happiness is.....
Evidence: " true happiness is being happy for what you have and are and not be ashame of who you are.": the text shows," Kino looked into the pearl and started to dream again. He tried to dream of all the the things that he wanted. But he could not dream again. He could only think of the terrible things that that had happened since they found the pearl." (53)
Explain evidence: This evidence reveals that being rich isn't the best thing in the world in fact is one of the worst nightmares of your life cause you can't dream like you use to and you could see is death or you may be lonely and have no one by your side.
What is true happiness? I think true happiness to John Steinbeck is having his family and having things that make him happy without needing money to buy it. On page 15 Juana said that if they find the pearl they'll be able to pay for the doctor That could heal coyotito, and that would make the family happy.that's why I think John steinbeck thinks that family is happiness. I also think that john steinbecks definition to happiness is having things that make him happy without needing money to buy it. I think that because the pearl ended up Making his family unhappy because he started getting greedy with it and it changed him a lot.so in conclusion I think that The authors definition to happiness is family and having things that make him happy that doesn't need money.

According to John Steinbeck, who wrote The Pearl, true happiness is being with people that will be there for you. The text shows that Juana never left Kino's side, she could of but she didn't, because she believed that Kino would get over his maddness and I quote "Kino, my husband," she cried, and his eyes stared past her. "Kino, can you hear me?" "I hear you," he said dully. "Kino, this pearl is evil. Let us destroy it before it destroys us. Let us crush it between tow stones. Let us- let us throw it back in the sea where it belongs. Kino it is evil, it is evil!" (page 26 Ipad book). What do you think John Steinbeck wanted us readers to learn about his book and true happiness?

According John Steinbeck the author of the Pearl true happiness is, loving things that you have, and not to take advantage of them. "Kino drew back his arm and flung the pearl with all his might"P(90). This shows how Kino feels about the Pearl, and how he shows his frustration. "Kino's eyes opened, and he looked first at the lightening square which was the door and then he looked at the hanging box where Coyotito slept. And last turned his head to Juana his wife, who lay beside him"P(1). This shows that Kino in the end still counts and depends on his family, for compassion, and love. In the end Kino always has time for his family.
