One sentence that stood out to me was "He could kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him, for all of the doctors race spoke to all of Kinos race as though they were simple animals." (Pg. 9) This quote shows how the difference races and ethnicitys were not equal, and how differently they were treated. "No, they never have money. I, I alone in the world am supposed to work for nothing-and I am tired of it..." This quote shows that some people care more for money than the health of others. Do you think money is more important than people?

It was a good quote and shows that your paying attention to the story and know what it means.

"coyotito screamed with pain in his box" That stood out to me, because the factor of screaming and pain signified that something had gone very bad. What else do you think signifies that something didn't go right.

What stood out to me in chapter one was that they repeatedly repeated words in the book that were symbols which I thought it was a smart thing to do because it stood out to me when I was reading the text. For example, "Kino heard the creak of the rope when Juana took Coyotito out of his hanging box, and cleaned him close to her breast"(3). When reading that sentence the word "breast" stood out to me because it was repeated numerous times in the story which made me think that it was a symbol. Another example of a symbol in the book is when, Coyotito's blanket was over his nose to protect him from the damp whether. In this sentence the word "blanket" stood out to me because it was also repeated numerous times in the chapter which I thought was a sign of comfort. What kind of symbol did you find in chapter one?

That is really rude. It's as if the doctor is implying that Kino and his people aren't even human.

One of the sentences that stood out to me was; " "Then we will go to him," Juanna said"(7). That stood out to me because even though the doctor wouldn't come to them they care so much about their baby that they would walk a while just to get to the doctor when the babies life is at risk. The doctor was greedy and wanted money and even though they were poor they did it for the baby.

I'm surprised that In the book, the doctor didn't help kino and his family just because they were poor and didn't have anything to give him in return which in my opinion is very selfish, and even when kino went to go see the doctor first the doctor left for someone that is rich that needed help, and the the doctor knew that the baby might die from the scorpion bite.

"No, they never have money. I, I alone in the world am supposed rework for nothing-and I am tired of it. See if he has money!" (7) This stood out to me because it showed that the doctor really only cared about the money and not the health of the baby. He won't help at all unless Kino has money to pay him with.

What stood out to me was the use of the word song being used to show the thoughts of Kino. There was the Song of Family, then the Song of Danger. The author also said that he could hear the other sounds around him, but they were different songs.

What stood out to me in chapter one is that the doctor did not want to help the baby because they would not be able to pay. In other words he did not care for the well being of people rather just about money. The other part that stands out to me is that how poor they are they basically don't have any money and make everything out of what they got.

One quote that really stood out in chapter 1 was, “He would not come.”(7) The people in the yard said this quote. This quote was about the doctor not wanting to go and cure the baby, Coyotito. It bothered me because the doctor is a really rich guy and he was so egoist to go and help people that are ill. That’s what he is supposed to do, help people who are ill. Another quote was, “ Have I nothing better to do than cure insect bites for ‘little Indians’? I am a doctor, not a veterinary.”(11) This quote really bothered me too because that shows that just because he is a rich, wealthy person that curing bites for Indians are just a waste of his time. He is a doctor he is supposed to help him.

I agree 100%, doctors are supposed to help people. Like couldn't he find it in his heart to help one little baby. It makes me question weather he became a doctor to help people of all because of the money he would get.

a sentence that stood out me in chapter one would be “kino felt weak and afraid and angry at the same time rage and terror went together. He could kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him.” this sentence is basically describing and telling how much kino could not even stand the thought of him and how negative it makes him feel. And i feel the doctor must have done something really terrible to have that title from kino. Another sentence in chapter one is when the doctor would not help kino and his family because they had no money and that tells that the doctor obviousley values money and might be one of the most important things to him.

One quote that surprised me about was "have I nothing better than cure insect bites for little Indians?" To that sounds very selfish and racist I think if the doctor was Indian he probaly would have helped. And I don't think that it would cost him much to help a little kid,.

One quote that stood out to me "have I nothing better to do than cure insect bites for 'little Indians'?" That sounds really rude because it's a innocent baby. It shouldn't matter what race I you are, everyone should be treated equally,

A sentence that stood out to me in the book was "Kino put his hand forward very quickly, but the scorpion fell past Kino's fingers on to the baby's shoulder. The scorpion stung Coyotito." I think this sentence is important because it's the cause of everything that happened in the story.

The sentence that stood out to me was, "The doctor has gone out," He said "He was called to a man very sick," I think this sentence stood out to me because just because they didn't have money the doctor didn't help. And Coyotito could die, its worst that being sick. So in conclusion I think the doctor should have just helped them, to give back to the homeless
