"They knew his ignorance, his cruelty, his avarice, his appetites, his sins." (9). This stood out to me because they knew almost everything about the doctor.

this is the sentence that stood out to me the most " Juana went to the fire pit and uncovered a coal and fanned it alive while she broke little pieces of brush over it". -(2) the reason this sentence stood out was because the word choice and how he used it when the author wrote it. I also like the details in this sentence. What sentence did you like the most?

I also like the word choice in this sentence. I especially like the word "alive" because it helps me picture that the fire is ever changing and living in some way. What words did you like?

I think the opening sentence, " Kino awakened in the near dark. The Stars still shown and the day had drawn only pale wash of light in the lowers key to the east " (1) Is always important because it's introducing you to the setting and characters. It starts out at near dark in the morning where there were still stars. The sun was just arriving in the morning. Kino woke up that morning early. This sentence is important because it showed you how the story starts with an easy starting sentence to understand the beginning of the book a little better.

Activity 6- What was a scentence that stood out to you, and why?
"Have I nothing to do than cure insect bites for little Indians". (Said the doctor)
This sentence shows that the doctor is very ungrateful of his job, and that this type of incident is very common. Also he wouldn't tweet some people because they had No. Only even though they were hurt.

The sentence that I choose was " he was called to a serious case" page 12. That sentence stood out to me because it was rude that the doctor left all the sick people there just because of one other case. I also thought it was mean that the doctor didnt usually take patients that were poor or a different race.

"Why should he had more than he could to take care of the rich people who lived in the stone and platser houses of the town" that sentence stands out to me because it shows that the doctor doesn't care about the poor people of the town

the sentence that stood out to me the most was thus sentence "juana sang softly an ancient song that had only 3 notes and yet endless variety of interval. And this was part of the family song too."(3) this sentence symbolizes love. Thats why this sentence stood out to me.

Chapter 1
A sentence that brought my attention was "his people had once been great makers of songs so that everything they saw or thought or did would become a song. That was long ago."(2). This sentence stood out to me because it tells of his people and how they were energetic and loved to make music but, now they don't and that wonders me because why. Did something happen between them and something that made them not want to record what they did with music.

Chapter one
One of the sentences that stood out to me was "The songs remaining; kino knew them but no new ones were added" When I read this sentence in thought why didn't they make anymore songs. Also the sentence "He lowered his blanket from his nose now, for the dark poisonous air was gone and the yellow sunlight fell on the house" I thought it was cool how the author thought of the night air as a bad thing. I think it was because in the night it is really cold and they need to stay warm from the cold night air then, when the sun is out it is a little bit more warm.
I got these sentences from pg(2,4)

Describe the setting
The setting in the Pearl is like your on a island and there's some houses built on the beach. There not fancy houses there more like straw houses. More on land there's what they call the "ritch" people's houses, made of bricks and stone. Where Kino and his family live is on the beach with the crumy straw houses.
Make prediction...what do you think will happen to Kino and his family?
I think what will happen is that Kino can't pay for the medacin that his kid needs and will end up diving for pearls to pay for it.

The text that most stood out to me was " has he any money " on pg 11 .the reason that that page stood out to me the more is because that was the first thing the doctor seas and it shows how he only chairs about the money not coyatito . It also shows that he will only his job it they have money and it shows how some people in this world only cair about money

I thought the part when coyotito got stung by a scorpion was most important because it gave a good example of the dangers of their life. what do you think was most important?

A sentence that stood out to me was "the neighbors departed so that the public shaming of kino would not be in their eyes." The reason why this sentence stood out to me was because it made me believe that the neighbors cared about kino that they didn't want him to feel like they were shaming him.

Chapter 1: What sentences stood out to you and why?
In the book The Pearl on the first page when I first started reading this book the sentence "kino heard the little splash of the morning waves on the beach. It was very good". The reason this sentence stood out is because time after time in the book the author is very descriptive. What kind of sentence sticks out to you
