The pearl is a classic, beacuse it teaches a lesson of what it's like to live in poverty. The main character kino hears these "songs" that reflect on his mood. They teach him how to survive, andhow to live life to the fullest. It is like other classics, because it teaches multiple parables. No other classic can compare to it, as all classics teach different lessons.

Kino hears these songs as recorded on page 5-6. Can u connect to a classic novels lessons?
I think that a classic is a story that a significant meaning can be pulled from. Much like a parable, a classic teaches a lesson. A classic is also timeless and will be read forever. The Pearl is a classic because it teaches a lesson and has been read popularly since it was written. What is another example of a classic text?

I think that The Pearl is a classic text.
One of the qualities a book must have the be a classic, is to have it be around for a long time. The Pearl was written in the 1920's, and it is still around today; nearly 100 years later.
Also, it is timeless. No matter how long from now you read it, it can be relatable because the theme can always be applied to someone's life.
What else do you need to be a classic?

'The Pearl' is a classic because it's a story that gets passed down from generation to generation without getting old. Another classic we have talked about was 'The Raven' they don't relate much but they are both considered classics. I don't think one fits the definition more or less. Are there any classics that fit the definition of a classic more?

I believe a classic is a tale- true or fake- that, while being old, is timeless and remains famous for it's excellency and message. A classic will shadow the era, or age, of when it was written.

A classic is basically a parable, it teaches a lesson, theme, or moral, and it is a tale that can be told to and is relatable to anyone. This author proves this, by saying that a classic is "not only timely, but also timeless" meaning that a classic is accurate to the time it was written in, but is also relevant no matter how old the book is. Do you have a favorite classic?

I think that The Pearl is a classic because it is old but still contains themes and symbols that can be relevant to anyone at any time. I say this because in the beginning of the entire book, the author says "And because the story has been told so many times, it has taken root in every man's mind" meaning that this story has been told very often, and is known by many people. I also say this because the author says in the same part of the book, "perhaps everyone takes his own meaning from it and reads his own life to it," which means that people take what themes they perceive from the story, and apply it to their life. These pieces of evidence show qualities of the book that are qualities of a classic, and that is why I think it is a classic. Why do you think it is a classic?

The pearl is a classic book because the story ,as far as I have read, tries to show how in the past how the natives of the land were penniless and how the foreign lived like kings. The story also shows how money and race can change the situation. Like if you are a rich white man you are treated well but if you are a poor native you are treated like Animal. for example when Kino's son, Coyotito was bit by a scorpion the doctor refused to treat them first. Because they were natives and second because they had no payment. Do you think this bipolar racialism still exists?

A classic is a timely story that will be around for several years after it was first published. A classic touches is relatable to all periods of history, society, and cultures. The Pearl is a classic text because it was first published in 1947 and is still popular. Another reason the pearl is a classic is because it teaches a lesson of a certain time period, however is still relatable today. The pearl relates to other classics because it is a timely book that you can get lost in, but still teaches a valuable life lesson. A classic that is relatable to the pearl is Romeo and Juliet because even though their themes are not alike they are both historic books that will still be popular in years to come and they both teach a leasson about life. Both Romeo and Juliet are classics and both fit the definition very well in my opinion. What is a good classic text that you think fits the definition of classic very well.

I presume that The Pearl is a classic text because number one, on page number three in the online book it states clearly on page number three that the story has been told and retold numerous times, has a place in all it's readers heart and is a parable. Those are three key indicators of a classic. Personally, I think The Pearl relates to The Raven on a way, both are well known, are parables and use the strategy of showing not telling. I do not think that The Raven fits the definition of a classic more than The Pearl does and vise versa. Both have very strong indicators of being classics. Do you have a favorite book that is considered a classic? Let me know!

One reason The Pearl is a classic is because of the setting of the book. The author momentarily tries to let the reader relive what it was like to live in the fishing town in La Paz in order to get a deeper meaning of the story. In other words, a parable. A parable is a story that teaches you a lesson. It helps you make a connection with something that could happen in real life. What are your opinions on how the author began the story?

The Pearl is a classic novel because not only does it show a strong theme throughout the book, but it has been around for years and will be around for many more. From The Pearl, you can find a specific lesson that John Steinbeck is trying to teach the reader. Another classic we have read this year is "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe and this relates to "The Pearl" because both have been around for many years and they will continue to be for many more.

The Pearl is a classic piece of literature that is relatable to all of its readers because it represents the struggles of that time period, has believable characters, and presents the truth filled, everyday life of living there. One quote that helps me to see this life is, "Juana went to the fire pit and uncovered a coal and fanned it alive while she broke little pieces of brush over it." This is not significant to the overall plot of the story, but it is an excellent example of Kino's everyday life that he treasures. Why do you think that authors puts in many seemingly insignificant details?

"The Pearl" is a true classic. Even though it takes place in a much different time than ours, we can all relate to the struggles Kino and his small family go through. A quote that really shows how familiar Kino is with his everyday life is, "Kino could see these things without looking at them." This quote shows how familiar Kino is to his everyday life, and doesn't seem to expect anything out of the ordinary. This book was published in 1947, also meeting another "requirement" to be a classic. Why do you think that one of the so-called requirements of a classic is to have been published for a good amount of time?

'The Pearl' is a classic because it fits in the definition of a classic. For one it has a common theme that can be related to everyone's life, wether it's past, present or even future. In other words it's timeless. Another reason why it's a classic is because it represents a time period and the struggles of that time, so it is timely. And lastly, 'The Pearl' is a classic because it has been around for a long time.

The Pearl is a classic text. "Then on a day like any other, Kino emerges from the sea with a pearl as large as a seagulls egg, as 'prefect as the moon.' With the pearl comes hope, and the promise of comfort and security." This is basically saying he has money, and riches, creating responsibility and if that power is abused, it creates a lesson being taught, thus proving this story to be a classic novel. Drop you think the pearl meets the classic novel criteria?

The Pearl shows the qualities of a classic text in many ways. One main way is that everyone can relate to this story somehow. Whether it's "I need to stop idolizing money" or "I shouldn't take my living situation for granted" or blah blah blah. One sentence that just stands out to me and will keep standing out is "I'm a doctor, not a veterinarian." (Pg. 8 on the PDF) That shows a true quality of a classic. Why? Because most true classics were written long ago, and this sentence shows that. Most people now a days are not that selfish and cruel as to call human beings animals. I feel like long ago people weren't afraid to say stuff like that, and now most people know that that's incredibly wrong to say.

Pearl is a classic because it's a timeless about greed and how it affects people. On page 23 it says, "Every man suddenly became related toKino's pearl, and Kino's pearl went into the dreams, the speculations, the schemes, the plans, the futures, the wishes, the needs, the lusts, the hungers, of everyone, and only one person stood in the way andthat was Kino, so that he became curiously every man's enemy." This shows how greed affects people which happened throughout all of history. Even today, when someone wins the lottery people will steal and beg for money. It's also timely in the fact that people at that time didn't have much money and lived in brush houses. They probably would be enemies with someone who was lucky and got rich. How does greed affect you?

The Pearl is a classic, timeless book. This moral of this book relates to everybody in one way or another. In this case this book teaches greed and how even the happiest of people can be influenced in as seen in p. 19. Kino gets paranoid as he sences someone might try to steal his pearl and goes crazy, even Juana notices it and Rgets upset worrying that the pearl will break their family apart. Kino might act this way because as the pearl is the only solution he sees that will give him and his family a brighter future. How does greed change you?

The Pearl is a classic because in the beginning of the book, the first paragraph is written as if it is to be told as a moral story. And since the majority of classics are told as moral stories, then The Pearl is also a classic. Also, Kino is poor in the bigging and can't help his family. But after he finds the pearl, everything will change and maybe even him. And since classics tend to tell stories in which something dramatically changed to the character, I think that the same will happen to Kino.

The pearl is a classic text because it has been around for a very long time. This book connects to the time period its in, has character development, and has a great moral to take from it. An example of the way it highly involves the time period its in is the way it describes the difference between the rich and the poor. As this was a bud thing at the time. Why do you know hunk the pearl is a classic?

The pedal is a classic because it follows all the criteria of a classic. It tells a story that can relate to many others and make them think about it. It is timeless, and the story has been around for a long while. In the book Kino gets very nervous about people taking away his wealthiness. Money can also go to many people's heads. Why do you think it's a classic?

The Pearl is definetly a classic. I say this because the Pearl is an example of a parable. A story that teaches a moral, or a lesson, that relates to an everyday problem or situation. In the story, Kinos life, and attitude is turned around because it is controlled by the greed of the Pearl. This relates to an everyday situation, such as the lottery. With such fortune, the people who are lucky enough to win often spend, spend, spend, and only think of what they could by they want, nor what they need. Suddenly the things you could buy become more important than the little things, and/or family. The Pearl is also a classic because it has been passed down for many years, maybe in different words, but constantly the same story. What aspects do you think a classic has?
